Can you recapture released pokemon

Ash never formerly released Pidgeot, so I doubt it could be recaptured. I would actually love for Paul to show up with Ash's old Pidgeot. It could be a way for the writers to bring it back to Ash and have it sent to Oak's lab rather than out in the wild.

Paul can also say that he captured a Fearow who was attacking a group of Pidgey and Pidgeoto but it was weak so he left it with Reggie. That would tip Ash off to the fact that the Pidgeit is his. Pidgeot can become an antagonist like Paul, well semi-antagonist anyway. I don't believe they've ever had a story where a pokemon becomes influenced by a dark force and turns against their trainer.

In the end, Paul could release the thing after learning that it used to belong to Ash, Ash can recapture it and send it to Oak. That would actually be a nice episode, too bad it won't happen.

Blue Snover Cold as ice. I don't remember Ash ever releasing any of his Pokemon permanently, so i don't think there's any chance of Paul catching Pidgeot. The only one i've seen to be actually released was Chimchar, i don't remember much about Charmanders introduction episode, but i'm sure Damien must have released it permanently or he wouldn't have to throw a Pokeball at it.

Well, Dawn released and recaptured Pachirisu Paul with Ash's Pidgeot would be interesting. Ash captured chimchar after Paul let it go. That kid forgot the name released Charmander and Ash catpured it, few years later, Paul did the same thing with Chimchar Dawn released her Pachirisu, then re-catpured it Of course!

Ash caught Chimchar which had been released by Paul, Dawn re-captured Pachirisu which she had previously released. You can also lose a battle if it goes on for more than 10 turns, so don't go into a shell so much that you forget to attack.
